Shopify uses Downpay to launch deferred payment preorders for POS Hub
Shopify’s Hardware Store is using the deposit app Downpay to offer $0 upfront preorders for a new device—functionality built for any Shopify brand with lead times.
Shopify POS Hub device available for preorder with fully deferred payment using Downpay
Ottawa, Canada, December 11, 2025 — Downpay, a partial payment and deposit app used by 1,300+ brands to extend the features of Shopify's Online Store, shared how Shopify's own Hardware Store leverages Downpay to enable fully deferred payment for preorders of the new POS Hub.
With the integration of Downpay, no upfront payment is required to reserve a POS Hub device from the Shopify Hardware Store, which uses the same platform and checkout flow Shopify offers to merchants. Instead, the entire balance is collected when the order is ready to be fulfilled. As a result, the commerce company can lock in preorder commitments while aligning payment collection with shipment timing and maintaining existing workflows.
This preorder experience is built using Downpay's customizable purchase option framework and payment automation. Downpay uses the Shopify platform's secure vaulting to store payment methods at checkout, and payment is processed later, through fulfillment- or date-based triggers. Buyers stay within the branded Shopify checkout and staff manage orders as usual in the Shopify Admin.
